Thornton fishing report week ending 19/08/07
Our surface water temperature has dropped to 18 degrees, water clarity is 6 ft+ & the trout have started feeding off the surface especially along the weed beds of the Thornton Arm & in front of the wood.
Damsels, sedges, buzzers & huge hatches of small green midges are on the water with a few trout to be seen feeding on the fry along the dam wall.
Ron Nelson caught 9 with the best at 5lb3oz on a white booby in front of the main car park, Paddy Fitch fished the top of the Thornton arm to catch 9 for his afternoon visit, Clive Holt caught 7 on his evening visit, Wayne Lewin fished buzzers to catch 9 from the Thornton Arm on buzzers while K. Stokes fished a small damsel to catch 7.
Patterns working well during the week were diawl bach, buzzers, orange thorax pheasant tails, damsels & small G&H sedge size 14.
With the water temperature at 18 degrees we will be stocking Tuesday of this week with 800 trout from Boscastle which should ensure good sport over the bank holiday weekend especially as the long range weather forecast continues to give cooler overcast conditions, ideal for the fishing.
