Fishing Report Week Ending 29/07/07
Heavy rain during the early part of the week once again took the level of the reservoir to above normal & reduced visibility to around 2ft, however by the weekend conditions started to improve with the water clarity improving all the time. Although not a great weeks fishing considering the conditions the 116 rods who did fish did well to catch 155 trout with the majority been taken on floating or intermediate lines with dries, orange thorax ph tails, red diawl bach & large bloodworm patterns been the most effective.
Christine Bagshaw used an orange thorax ph tail to catch 4 while Scott Wilson used his bloodworm pattern to catch his 4, Stuart Thompson only started fly tying three weeks ago & used his newly tied bobs bits dries to catch 8 including 2 over 3lb for his evenings visit, Peter Hunt caught 5 for his mornings visit on hares ear & diawl bach with fish of 3lb8oz & 4lb while John Smith caught 6 for his day visit.
The water temperature is at least 4 degrees cooler than normal for the time of year at the moment its 17 degrees which is why the nymphs & dries are working. With the cooler water conditions the trout are back in the arms & in the top 3ft of the water with a good number up the top of the Thornton Arm, off the corner of the wood & farm bank.
The 15 day forecast looks excellent for the fishing with mostly dry days forecast with the daytime temperature in the 18 – 21 degrees & the nighttime a cool 9-12 degrees should be ideal for the fishing.
