Witton Castle lakes Report Week Ending 27.7.07
What a strange season weatherwise.
Some days we are having thunderstorms, which certainly does not help the fishing. The fish can be on the top one minute, then on the bottom the next.
Flies are ranging from CDC Olives, to Black Zonkers, it is almost impossible to advise what to use.
However, Damsel Nymphs, Diawl Bachs and good old Dawsons Olive seem to be a fair starting point.
Anglers and sporting permits have returned some big fish this week, with Chris Micaleef, from Stockton, returning 9 fish, with the best estimated at 20lbs, all on Bloodworms.
Alan Reed from Lancester returned 10 up to 15lbs, Colin Murray from Durham , had fish 0f 6lbs, 4lbs and 3lbs, all to Diawl Bachs.
The river Wear is up and down like a yoyo, Seatrout fishers like low and clear water for night fishing, as yet this season the river has yet to settle.
Both salmon and Seatrout seem to be moving through all the time, but conditions are making them difficult to catch.
