The River Almond Nr Edinburgh, has risen to 12" above Summer Level, water clarity is poor.
The river is back up and running quite dirty, spinning would be the best choice today or drowning a bunch of worms in the falls pool.
On Thursday might following the committee meeting I saw a cracking Sea Trout of about 2.5lb leap clear of the water in the Car Park Pool, so the fish are still entering the river on the tides.
As we enter July our thoughts should still be on the Sea Trout, but with water we should start to see some Grilse enter the system, lets hope we don't have to wait until September again for our first Silver Tourist.
So far this year anglers have been out in force and with July I'd expect some more settled weather and only the odd spate. Fish will start to congregate in the estuary and run with every rise, making fishing a dropping river the best option. As seen in June these fish don't hang around and anglers should try further upstream.
Tight lines .... and remember return as many as you can and we'll continue to see these improving runs.
