Witton Castle Lakes Report Week Ending 1.1.07
Raging thunderstorms and heavy intermittent rain have all three lakes in pristine condition.
These barometric front flutuations seem to stir the fish up into action, although they may move deeper , away from the margins.
Edward Sharp from Newfield, scored again with another double of 19 ½ lbs on a Cats Whisker, completing his bag with fish at 2lbs and 3lbs.
Darren Jacques from Darlington’s belter fish fell to another Cats Whisker at 19 ¼ lbs, completing with a further two, 2. lbers.
David Boyd from Stocksfield, yet again another double at 19 ¼ lbs on a natural Zonker.
13 year old Kalon Everitt, and his father William’s, fish fell to a Black Zonker to take a prestine fish of 8 ¾ lbs, along with Lawrence Davison from Great Lumley at 9 ½ lbs on a Gold Head PTN.
Melvin Hope from Sunnyside returned a perfectly proportioned Goldie at 8 lbs, well done Mel. we knew you could do it !
Best flies for the week, top of the water, have been foam extended body Daddies, Black foam Beetles , Hares Ear Shipmans and CDC loop and flat wing, with lures being black and natural Zonkers and the ever popular Cat’s Whisker
David Coxen from Chester le Street fishing a sporting permit caught and returned a 15lb plus fish on a CDC Buzzer on the East Lake Point.
The river Wear is up and down like a yo – yo . at the moment it is just over 1 foot above summer level running a nice tea colour.
Many anglers are out spinning with Tobies, and the ever popular Rapala.
Biggest Salmon reported so far at 18 lbs, by Alan Cant from Woodpool.
