Thornton Fishery Report week ending 24.6.07.
Thornton Fishery Report week ending 24.6.07.

During the past week 150 rods caught 413 trout returning 190 for a rod average 2.8 Mornings & early afternoons have generally produced best with the stones, green bay & dam producing best with the trout feeding on hatches of small green buzzer, damsels & large shoals of pin fry along the stones. Towards the end of the week a number of trout could be found at the top of the Thornton Arm feeding on the ever increasing hatches of sedge.

Mr & Mrs Oakley on holiday in the area enjoyed an excellent mornings fishing catching 17 on damsels, Norman Musson used his favorite red eyed damsel to catch 10 for his mornings fishing along the green bay & stones, T. Cook fished a damsel to catch 11, Clive Holt fished an evening session in front of the dam & green bay to catch 14 whilst Trevor Pegg found a pearly pheasant tail worked well on the pin fry feeders to catch 9, Scott Wislon used a minky booby & gold headed daddy on a WetCel2 to catch 14 whilst Horrace Wood took the best fish of the week 5lb4oz.

With the cooler weather helping to reduce the surface water temperature, this morning 18.5degrees & with our water clarity around 6ft our good spell of fishing should continue. Since opening day a total of 3,136 rods have caught 12,809 trout for a fishery rod average of 4.1 which will put 2007 as one if not the best season ever.
