Witton Castle Lakes report 27.5.07/10.6.07
Damsels starting to appear in good numbers and plenty of fish being taken on
the nymphs. Still small flies on the top are doing best with Shipmans
Buzzer, CDC Olives and Beetles doing well.
Sub surface, Hares Ears, Daiwl Bachs and Buzzers are all catching fish and
best of the lures are Black Zonkers, and Dawsons Olive.
David Lees from Washington took the best fish of the week at 15lbs. taken on
a Buzzer, Ray Anderson from Hunwick returned his best fish ever, estimated
at 15lbs and Kevin Mc Kimm from Bishop Auckland had a cracking goldie which
weighed 9lbs.
As I report the river is in flood after a thunderstorm, so hopefully this
should bring in the first of the seatrout.
Hailstones are bouncing of the fishery lodge windows at the moment, whatever has happened to our weather in our region. We are back to north and northeasterly wintery conditions, with the fish moving down in the lower reaches of the water column.
Double figure fish are still on the move, feeding, and are taking lures,Black and Yellow Zonkers , Black Fritz and Orange Blobs.
On the milder parts of some days, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Black Buzzers,Damsel Nymphs and Diawl Bachs are all connecting with fish just under the surface.
There are Caenis in abundance and fishing a muddler across and on the surface can give some exciting sport.
Another double figure fish of 19.5lbs, followed by two 4lb.ers, fell to Edward Sharp from  Newfield on a Black Fritz.
Steven Walton from Southchurch , fishing his version of a Yellow Zonker, connected into a 14.8oz  Rainbow which took him down to near the end of his backing, into the middle of the east lake, where it wrapped his leader around a floatation buoy.
Luckily two of our Bailiffs working out in the lake  with a boat were able to release the fish.
This fortunate angler left with a smile on his face, with a further 2, 2lb.ers in his bag.
Peter Boynton , had a beautifully proportioned  11.8oz  Blue Trout , which fell to a size 16 Pheasant Tail, along  with Tom Young from Southsheilds taking his limit of 9.75lbs, 2.75lbs.and 2.75lbs.
Sporting permit angler Alan Parker from Consett, released 20 fish best to 5, 6 & 7lbs, .
Adam Sams from West Auckland, returned 9 fish, best to 11lbs, all on a Shipmans Buzzer
