A hard week of fishing this time around on the lake with the hot weather
really turning the fish off and sending them down to the deeps for the
cooler water. A rod average of 2 saw a lot of anglers struggle this week
with plenty of blanks and the main reason for this was down to the weather
and the anglers not fishing deep enough.
Dave Roberts had a cracking day to prove that the fish could be
caught in poor fishing conditions taking his 3 fish limit and returning
another 8 fish and some good rainbows as well. Mr Roberts was out in the
boat drifting the open water with a fast sink line using a Tadpole fished
quite slow. The top boat spots have been out in the middle over the deeper
water and around the buoys from 3 buoy 4,5,6 and also 9 and 10. This hot
spell has sent the fish down I'm sure so use fast sinking lines with your
top patterns black/green lure, Boobies, Sparklers, Cats whiskers etc.
Banks anglers are finding the fish just a bit to far out for them to
reach so the Boat Jetty and Sailing Club Jetty have been the hot spots with
some nice fish getting caught. Lee Grice from Derby had a cracking Brown
in his bag this week which tipped the scales at 3lb 11ozs. Lee spend a
long time chasing the fish up and down the margin's and finally tempted the
brown on a dry Daddy "good angling mate."
Looking ahead to next week hopefully the weather will either cool
down or the fish will get used to it. The best times this week have been
first thing in the mornings or later on in the evening when the sun has
gone down the fish have started to rise. Tight Lines and will see you soon
Phil Dixon.
