Thornton Fishing Report week ending 10/06/07
A week of two halves as the early part of the week was dominated by a strong cold blustery north easterly wind however by Thursday weather conditions had improved & with it the catches. Overall 205 rods caught 437 trout returning 172 for a rod average of 2.1.
Intermediate or sinking lines with damsel patterns were the most productive method of the week with green or brown damsel patterns taking fish. The trout are starting to move into the deeper water with the stones, green bay & around the cages producing best during the day. However during the evening our large hatches of sedge & caenis are pulling the trout back into the shallows with the best of the sport here to be had during the last hour with small sedge patterns, tups & a sparkle gnat.
Garry Owen caught 35 trout for his two afternoon sessions last week, Melvyn Kelly fished a gold headed brown damsel on a slow retrieve to catch 12, Peter Wrigley caught 13 on damsel & green buzzer, Allan Wale & boat partner C. Bray fished a damsel pattern static on a floating line to boat 18 for their afternoon visit, Tom Hutchinson used his gold headed damsel pattern to catch 10 while Paul Walker recorded a fish of 4lb12oz in his catch of 6 trout again on a damsel.
Our water clarity remains excellent with the surface temperature at 17degrees with another cooler showery forecast for this coming week I would expect the reservoir to continue providing us with another good weeks fishing.
