Thornton Fishing Report week ending 03/06/07
During last week 218 rods caught 690 trout returning 349 for rod average 3.1 with the best of the sport during the earlier part of the week when we had overcast cooler conditions with trout moving all day feeding on hatches of small green buzzer during the day with sedges & caenis ensuring a fantastic rise during the last couple of hours in the evening along the wood bank & farm.
Damsels continue to show in increasing numbers with Tom Hutchins fishing a gold headed damsel pattern to catch 11 trout with the best weighing 7lb14oz caught from the green bay area
Tony Lorrimer caught 21 to 3lb on his visit while day rod S. Fenton on a visit from Fife caught 29 on skinny buzzers & black & green fritz, T. Cook caught 10 for his mornings visit while P. Wrigley fished buzzer & bloodworm patterns to catch 19. D. Pritchard used a damsel to catch 12 to 3lb for his morning session. Scott Wilson fished a diwal bach, bloodworm & damsel to catch 17 while Peter Broad used a green buzzer, red diawl bach & a bibio to catch 23.
Gary Owen & partner Sara won the Thornton Fly Fishers Boat Pairs competition with 12 trout for 21lb8oz in difficult bright flat calm conditions on Sunday taking their winning bag by 1pm.
Best patterns, damsel, buzzers, diawl bach, bloodworm, sparkle gnat, orange blob.
When the weather is overcast a floater should produce best, but if the sun comes out bearing in mind our excellent water clarity put on a intermediate or my personal choice would be a wetcel2 sinking line ideal for fishing 5-6ft down.
