The good spell of fishing continues at Thornton, with 191 rods catching 1,314 trout and returning 798 to give a rod average of 6.9.
The trout have turned onto the Buzzer and are well spread throughout the reservoir, with the Thornton arm, Markfield arm & Green bay all producing good catches to black or green buzzers, diawl bach & damsels. We are also starting to see an evening rise once the sun has gone off the water.
During the past week the first Alders and Hawthorns appeared on the water, with the Hawthorn hatches getting better as the week went on. The stone bank is often an excellent area to fish when the Hawthorn is about.
Again with a rod average of 6.9, we have seen some large individual catches of 20 trout or more, while fishing catch & release. There have been a number of fish between 3lb to 4lb with angler John Gunby catching the best fish of the week at 5lb 1oz.
