Most of our local still waters are now fishing very well indeed, and Beanhill Lake has been no exception. This is the time of year when rainbows are in a mood to feed up for the winter, and once the early morning cold is off the water, the takes can become quite aggressive with fish chasing flies right into the margin. Most visitors have been successful with meaty flies like Goldheads and Montanas, but Buzzer patterns have also accounted for a lot of fish. And despite the cold, a lot of fish have been taken just under the surface, fishing “down the hill” with an intermediate line pulling a neutral buoyancy fly off the top at a shallow angle towards the depths.
