Well the cold weather has turned up this week and I thought that it would have driven the trout into the banks but how wrong could I be? Plenty of the fish are still out in the middle with number 6 Buoy out in the Carvers Arm being a real hot spot with some anglers taking over 10 fish. The rod average for the week was 3.2 with a good number of anglers going home with their limits.
The water temp is at 12 degrees, which is still warm for the time of year, which is why the boats have caught consistently, with areas like The Carvers Arm, Sailing Club Bay, Outside the Lodge and off Hut Point all holding a lot of fish.
As for the Bank anglers sport has been good fishing on floating or Intermediate lines with Cat’s Whiskers, Black and Green and Minkies all catching well. The hot spots have been Hut Point, Sunblest Bay, Vernuns Point, Sailing Club up the Dam Wall and off the Jetty.
Si Owens from Derby took the best fish of the week, a rainbow of 5lb 4oz, he also took 4 fish over the 3lb mark from the boat with a sinking line and a Minkie Booby. Plenty more good fish came out over the 3lb mark and the browns are still popping up with Brian Crockett taking a lovely fish over the 4lb mark and a rainbow of 5lb, the brownie was safely returned now that they are out of season.
For this coming week I’m sure the fishing will remain good, not so sure when the trout are going to come into the banks, but hopefully in the next week the fry bashing will be well on the way, with the season closing on the 30th November.
