Thornton Reservoir Week Ending 25th Feb 07
Thornton Reservoir Week Ending 25th Feb 07

For most of the week we enjoyed excellent sport but heavy rain, falling on already sodden ground during the early hours of Saturday did put the level of the reservoir up & by Sunday the water had coloured, but by Monday (today) the water level was back to normal with fishing conditions improving.

During the week 102 rods caught 430 trout returning 197 for rod average 4.2 with the bank producing well once again with many of the fish been taken with 10 yards of the margins. Many of the bank anglers caught on floating or intermediate lines with buzzers, diawl bach & damsel whilst boat anglers used an intermediate line with tadpoles & bright coloured blobs. Mr P. Clough caught 6 to 5lb4oz on buzzers, Scott Wilson fished twice off the bank using a damsel & buzzers to catch 30 fish for his two visits, P. Kisby used a damsel, cruncher & phtail to catch 10 to 2lb8oz, Tom Davies & his son caught 23 fish including fish of 3lb & 6lb

Once again the shallows of the Thornton Arm & Wood bank produced best with the period from 10.00am to 3pm being the most productive time to fish. May I remind all anglers that booby flies should not be used when catch & releasing, & boat anglers will give way to bank anglers.
