Thornton Fishing report week ending 22/03/09

A sign of spring is here as I spotted the first sand martin of the year on the water Sunday afternoon.

The surface water temperature is currently 7.5degrees

A mixed week with a strong cold wind some afternoons not helping matters, however 243 rods still caught 613 trout returning 299 for a weekly rod average 2.5

Once again the bank offered the better with the area opposite the lodge corner of the wood & lonesome pine offering the best of the sport. However top competition angler Lee Henfrey fished from the boat & caught 22 trout to 2lb8oz, returning a few days later to record a catch of 12, M. Margett & Phill Darding shared a boat & caught 18 between them to 3lb on damsels, Scott Wilson fished the bank for his catch of 17 trout taken on blobs & humongous while M. Oliver fished the bank to catch his 15 trout, father & son J. Graney & D. Graney caught 19 for their visit.

A floating line has continued to be the most productive method with a variety of patterns working from black & green tadpoles, cats whisker, blob, humongous & buzzers.
