The fishing at Thornton continues to improve as we move into the autumn with the trout feeding heavily on the excellent buzzer hatches with a large amount of trout to be seen feeding on the surface.
During the past week 196 rods caught 546 trout returning 230 for a rod average 2.8 Late morning onwards continues to be the best time to fish with anglers using intermediate lines with small cats whiskers, Montana & pheasant tails during any bright still periods with a floating line dries & emergers when the trout are on the surface. Boat anglers continue to enjoy the best of the sport.
Notable catches during the week were made by M. Glover catching 10 trout on daddies & emergers, A. Downes fished 2½ hours from his float tube catching 7 trout on a diawl bach, Paddy Fitch caught 11 for his visit while Christine Bagshaw caught 10 on a green & black cruncher & orange thorax pheasant tail with Tony Lorrimer catching 19 on his visit drifting over the reservoir.
Late September & October can be an excellent time of year to visit Thornton booking your boat prior to your visit is recommended to avoid disappointment.

Local angling club Thornton Fly Fishers start their fly tying lessons at the Thornton Working Mens Club on Wednesday 1st October 7.30pm Bob Menhams will be your instructor. Beginners are welcome.
