JANUARY PIKE FISHING CHEW JANUARY PIKE FISHING CHEW VALLEY After the fantastic autumn pike fishing at Chew Valley last year anticipation was very high for the first session of 2008. And although the weather was very disappointing the catches were good with four more thirty pound fish recorded in the seven days of fishing. Throughout the week the winds were very fresh and occasionally strong which made fishing in the open lake very difficult. Most anglers headed for the shelter of Villice and Herons Bay and that is where most of the fish were taken. The water was fairly coloured by the winds and heavy rain but lures and replicants still worked well. First to land a thirty was PETE CLIMO, his 32.09 took a shad on day one. Other lucky anglers were PAUL JONES who caught the best fish of the session at 35.06, SIMON PLEDGE who, while fishing with local guide John Horsey, captured a 32.00 fish having only fished for pike on four previous occasions, and TERRY WHEATLEY who took a 30.08 on a herring. As well as these fish there were plenty of twenties including 29.00, 28.08, 27.14,27.04,25.06 and others. Saturday 2nd February sees the start of the second session and although all the boats are now taken there are still some bank places left for the weekdays 4th -8th.
