BRISTOL WATER FISHERIES - 2008
BRISTOL WATER FISHERIES - 2008

In 2007 anglers enjoyed some of the best trout and pike fishing for many years. The size and quality of the fish were second to none. The start of the trout season was for many the best ever, with many 4, 5 & 6 lb fish included in limit bags. Boat fishermen enjoyed a resurgence of dry fly fishing and many of our season permit holders had their best season ever off the shore despite very high water levels and some extreme weather conditions. Several brown trout weighing more than 10lbs were taken with the best fly caught fish estimated at 14lbs before being returned to the water. Two other fish of 16+ were caught and returned in the pike fishing sessions.
Pike anglers have come expect the best at Chew Valley and they were treated to one of the most memorable years with no less than 16 fish topping the 30lb mark, the best a whopping 38.06. Twenty-pound fish were common and fish could be taken on lures and dead baits throughout the trials. And many of these fish, including 3 over 30, came from the bank.
