With just a couple of weeks remaining of the 2007 season I thought I'd send a report on the winter trout fishing and on the success of the recent pike boat fishing.
The levels of all the lakes are very high for the time of year. This has not helped the bank fishing, preventing access to many usually popular areas and offering anglers huge expanses of water where there is often dry land. But there have been plenty of fish to catch especially at Chew where masses of roach and perch fry have drawn fish in close to the shore. Woodford has been the favourite place with Nunnery, Wick and North Shore also producing some good bags. At Blagdon there have been fish all around the lake but no large concentrations making locating fish more difficult. Barrow 3 has seen some better results 'though the mouse men have not fared so well.
This years autumn pike fishing has been exceptional with 10 fish over 30lbs reported and more than 60 others tipping the scales at 20+. Although the boats have now finished there are still two bank sessions left. Details from Woodford Lodge.
Dates and prices for 2008 fishing will be published in Mid December after which we will start accepting letter bookings for boats. Ring the Lodge for more details.
Attached are a couple of pictures of 16lb brown trout captured and returned at Chew by pike fishers. These huge fish and others like them will be there for next year and hopefully may be caught in season.
