Rutland Water
fish for week 433 (26237) returns 226 (8100)
Boat anglers fared well last week with a good number of limits coming out. However, the best fish of the week came off the bank. John Griffin, a season ticket holder from Egleton, took a stunning 6lb 14oz rainbow on a hare’s ear whilst fishing off the peninsula. John also had the best brown of the week at 4lb 8oz along with another fish over 4lb.
Boat anglers messrs Williams and Christopher from Wales, took the advice of the Rutland Wardens and fished the main basin for their three day visit and managed 38 fish having a limit apiece on the last two days. 26 of the fish caught were over 2lb. The pair had great success with floating lines with the top fly being a silver invicta accounting for the majority.
The Tuesday Night Boat League had good sport again with three limits in less than 2½ hours of fishing. Don’t forget that there is still time to take part in the Anglian Water four man loch style team competition on Wednesday 15 August. Please call the lodge for details on 01780 686441.
A lot of fish have turned up on the aerators recently, with all tactics working from floating lines to di7, from nymphs to lures.
Leicester angler George Kennerley caught well last week with six fish taken last Wednesday whilst fishing off the Normanton bank. George used a floating line with diawl bach the successful fly.

Grafham Water
fish for week 380 (14744) returns 55 (3989) rod average 2.13 (3.69)
Location has been the key to success in fishing Grafham Water during the past week. The west end has yielded a few quality fish to perservering anglers. Valley Creek gave up three superb fish to floating line and buzzers when Lionel Haines cycled to Savages Creek and landed rainbows of 5lb 6oz and 3lb 8oz to a daddy presented just sub surface.
The most prolific area has once again been around B,K and G buoys between the north shore and the middle and from G buoy to I buoy and down towards the dam. Most anglers have responded to several methods. Most common has been a slow sinker with a washing line using a booby on the point with nymphs on the droppers. Blobs and tube flies presented on di3 have succeeded, as have floating lines carrying slowly fished nymphs such as diawl bachs, pheasant tails and crunchers.

Invicta Tuesday Night Boat League
Last week’s Tuesday night boat league attracted its best entry so far this year with 26 anglers taking part. The result was interesting in that the most senior angler, Arthur Sexton, had the most fish (six) whilst the youngest of them all, Andrew Johnston, finished joint fourth after landing his first two Grafham trout on only his third trip. Chris McCloud was the winner in the draw for the free midweek boat and the Wheatsheaf in Perry provided a good supper for all.

Boat anglers have been enjoying some good sport at Pitsford Water at the dam and the aerator taking fish on dries and nymphs. Hatches of flying ants have been around the dam wall and the trout have been up and taking them.
One angler, fishing the evening boat league, took 8 fish on dries in three hours. Other anglers have been taking fish on muddles, hoppers, damsels and buzzers.
Bank fishing is more challenging with very few fish being taken.
