Tuesday Night Boat League
Twelve year old Angus Smith from Careby near Stamford won the Tuesday Night Boat League with 3 fish - probably the youngest ever winner of one of these matches. Angus attended an Anglian Water Beginners’ course instructed by Dave Doherty back in April. Following a top up session, with warden Nigel Savage, Angus learnt how to double haul. Angus won week twelve of this league on only his second attempt. His boat partner on the night, Chris Evans, declared that the youngster ‘showed great enthusiasm and he could have had more than the three fish he took.’ This youngster has a very promising future.

Louise Callow from Bedfordshire caught the best rainbow of the week at 6lb 4oz. Louise was boat fishing at G buoy and used a floating line and black buzzer. Season ticket holder Rob Edmunds from Ringstead took the biggest bag of the week taking 8 fish for 20lb. Both boat and bank anglers have enjoyed good sport this week with the majority of the trout being caught on small nymphs with floating or intermediate lines. One of the best methods is the washing line fished on a very slow sinker with an orange booby on the point and a team of nymphs in front of it.
Bank anglers have enjoyed excellent sport from the south end of the dam and the seat area on either small nymphs, such as diawl bachs, crunchers and pearly pheasant tail nymphs which are producing the majority of the trout being caught, but minkies and fry patterns are taking the better quality fish mainly from the Seat.
There have been large numbers of fish spotted In Savages in the past week, feeding mainly on the small fry that have congregated there ,with some anglers managing to catch them. The best areas for boat anglers have been B,K, P and G buoys.

Season permit holder Ray Line, from Earls Barton, recorded the best rainbow this week, a fish of 7lb 6oz. Ray boat fished in his usual style of deep lure fishing for large specimen trout. Ray has a reputation for netting big fish catching a good number of browns ranging from 4lb to 7lb this year many of which he has returned.
Bank anglers are still enjoying good sport with fish staying close to the bank, which is un-seasonal for the time of year. Bank anglers still need to wade and there is no sign of weed. Senior Warden Nathan Clayton predicts that we will be catching on the bank to the end of the season.
Boat anglers continue to catch with areas like the Small Half and the dam producing fish. Anglers are benefitting from the generous stocking last Tuesday with more stocking planned for this week.

Both Wick Lane and the Ramada lakes are fishing well with all swims available. James Evans and Lee Owen both had good mixed bags of bream, roach, rudd, perch and gudgeon, the best of which was a 7½lb bream caught by James. Steve Bennett, also on Wick Lane, had an excellent 7½lb tench and Des Wells landed two of the remaining carp, the best of which was a 16lb common. There are still some fishable swims on the main reservoir mainly around Noah's Ark and along Lodge Lane, anglers are advised to call in at the Lodge to get the latest information.
