Rutland Water
fish for week 539 (21065) returns 188 (6000) rod average 2.86(3.51)
In spite of last week’s unsettled weather “Buzzer” Bob Fitzpatrick and friends came down to Rutland on their usual pilgrimage and had some good sport boat fishing. Bob’s boat recorded 14 fish with eight of those over 3lb, the best being a 4lb 9oz rainbow. Another angler, Mr Jerman of London, caught six rainbows, including the heaviest fish of the week at 5lb 8oz. He had others of 4lb 8oz and 4lb.
At times fish have been on top, with bank anglers having good sport, especially early on Tuesday night (before a storm broke) and Wednesday with anglers enjoying some good dry fly and nymph action.
Boat anglers caught fish in the main basin and the middle areas of the south arm, fish had been on top in very shallow water for the last few weeks. However, fish are now going deeper with daphnia showing up in stomach contents. The average size of fish at the moment is good, with good numbers around the 3lb bracket being taken.

Grafham Water
fish for week 618 (11793) returns 250 (2992) rod average2.47 (3.94)
The biggest fish of the week was taken by season ticket holder Clive Morgan from Ilford – a cracking superb conditioned over wintered rainbow of 6lb 3oz. Clive took the fish by ripping a gold and slver tube on a di7 line from the south end of the dam.
The fishing at Grafham Water has been challenging for both bank and boat anglers. However, there has been some good fishing at times on the reservoir with the majority of trout being caught in the top four feet of the water on a vast selection of flies and lines.
Floaters to di7’s with big red dries, ptn, buzzers, blobs, boobies and pin fry patterns have had some good success, but at the moment there has been no sure method to catch the free rising over wintered trout.
