Rutland Water Week Ending 13 November 2006
Fish for week: 347 (season 36,518)
Returns: 148 (10,901)
Rod average: 2.34(3.34)
Best rainbow: 5lb 5oz taken by Russ Parker from Mansfield
Best brown: Brown trout now out of season any browns hooked must be returned alive as quickly as possible
Best boat areas: Main Basin, Fishing Lodge frontage, and the Sailing Club
Best bank areas: East Creek to the Fishing lodge, Yellowstone and Normanton
Best methods: Fry patterns best, although one or two fish have been taken on nymphs and dries

The best rainbow of the week weighed 5lb 5oz and fell to boat angler Russ Parker of Mansfield. Out of season browns are showing - season ticket holder Tony Shields of Melton Mowbray netted and returned a 13lb specimen. Tony shared a boat with regular boat partner Barry Thompson. The pair had a good bag of rainbows with many over the 3lb mark.

Rutland Water is fishing exceptionally well for the time of year with boat anglers in particular having tremendous sport with late season fry feeders. The Main Basin has seen most of the action with limits coming out in less than four hours. Many of the fish have been rainbows in the 2.5-3.5lb range, especially in mid-week when the weather was more settled, including a good few between 4lb and 5lb.

Methods used have been various sinking lines with Gold and Silver Sparklers, Minkies and Booby minkies fished slowly. Fish are targeting bream and roach fry out in the deepest part of the reservoir.  Bank anglers have caught along the East Creek to the fishing lodge, again with Fry patterns, plus Nymphs with one or two taking dry flies.

Prospects look very good. Fish are slowly but surely coming into the bank. However, there are 20 boats available for anglers through till Saturday 25 November. Please call the Lodge on 01780 686441 for further details.
