fish for week 512 (1647) returns 150 (487) rod average 3.4 (3.3)
Bob Aves bagged a fantastic 11lb 7oz rainbow, the best fish of the week, from the Sailing Club Bay on Sunday. Bob used a red buzzer fished on a floating line. Bob, who lives at Burton Latimer, said “It’s the biggest Pitsford Rainbow that I’ve caught in four years – and it gave me the best fight I’ve ever had!”
On Sunday Pitsford Water hosted the Mid Northants Trout Fishers annual bank match. Despite the bitter east wind, 14 anglers fished the match to a 2.7 rod average. Former club chairman Grant Gibson won, weighing in 6 fish for 13lb 11oz . Colin Faulkner was second with 4 fish for 12lb 13oz, also taking the best fish – a rainbow at 3lb 6oz. Third was Ashley Cooper with 6 fish for 11lb 4oz. Most anglers were fishing sinking lines and lures from North Farm Bay or Stilton Point.
Also on Sunday, the fishery hosted the first team get together of the England Youth squad. These youngsters qualified last year in the National and are now bonding as a team to prepare for the International usually held in August. Team coach Ian Barr said the lads enjoyed the day, especially when they found fish off the Pines, quite close in out of the wind. The budding Internationals caught on a variety of methods, but were particularly successful on a cats whisker booby on a fast sinking line.
