Rutland Water
fish week 988 (season 21,212) returns 335 (6108) rod average 2.9 (3.5)
Boat anglers are catching well during the day, with bank anglers taking fish in the late evening with lots of fish showing along the Normanton bank close in, when conditions are right. Limit bags were taken throughout the week and showed good numbers of rainbows around the 3 to 4lb being taken. Fish are mainly feeding on daphnia and small buzzers with one or two on snails. The best area recently has been the main basin, however Warden, Paul Friend fished Manton bay and caught 8 nice rainbows, fishing on the rudder. One or two anglers tried their luck there at the weekend and caught some cracking fish on nymphs, including the winning boat fishing the over 50’s match on Saturday. Water clarity is very good at the moment with the unusually cool weather for July and the weed beds starting to appear around the reservoir should hold plenty of food to keep good numbers of fish close to the bank. The weekend of 19/20 July is a busy one with practice for the Northern Final of the Anglian Water Fulling Mill International competition being held on Monday 21 July. Boats are limited so please book before travelling.

Over 50’s Match
Your never to old in this game. Being the wrong side of fifty didn’t stop 28 young at hearts from catching 134 fish for a rod average of 4.7 on what turned out to be quite a blustery day for most that fished. The majority choose to fish the main basin and had to contend with a big wave for most of the day. However it was Ken Moore and Dai Gingell from Chorley who won the match, fishing in the calmer conditions of Manton bay. Fishing nypmphs under the bung the pair weighed in 16 fish for an impressive 38lb 12oz. Not far behind were the winners from the previous tow years, Jim Watts of Ryhall and Stuart Hume of Co. Durham, followed by Jon Marshall of Oakham and John Emerson of Northampton in third spot.
1 Dai Gingell & Ken Moore with 16 fish for 38lb 12oz

Grafham Water
fish week 872 (season 12,205) returns 164 (3290) rod average 5.3 (3.7)
Grafham Water has once again fished well for both boat and bank anglers with the vast majority of trout being caught in the top 4 feet of the surface on small lures or nymphs.
Bank anglers have once again been only able to fish the south shore due to brisk southerly winds, but this hasn’t stopped them catching with the south dam, Plummer park, Gaynes cove and the seat/ sludge bank areas all producing good catch rates and some really enjoyable sport on small nymphs, Diawl Bachs, crunchers, PTN, cats whiskers and sparklers on floating or intermediate lines.
Boat anglers have been having some superb sport with plenty or trout being caught from hot spots at A bouy, G bouy, and the mouth of Savages. But most other areas of the reservoir have also been catching well on di3s and 5s lines with boobies, blobs, Diawl Bachs, Crunchers, sparklers and tubes all producing good catch rates

Ravensthorpe Reservoir
fish week 429 (season 9067) returns 60 (1591) rod average 7.1 (5.7)
The seasonal damsel hatch at Ravensthorpe is at its peak. Trout are gorging themselves on these meaty mouthfuls, chasing the free swimming nymphs over and around the weedbeds to provide some excellent ‘top of the water’ sport to both dry fly and traditional patterns fished on floating lines from drifting boats.
Flies to use depends upon cloud and ripple conditions, with hoppers, muddlers, crunchers, CDC’s hares ears and thin diawls and damsels best.
Rick Barlow of Chorleywood drifted small dries to take 23 fish. Dennis Footman of Leicester used his “fiery fluebrush” to good effect on Thursday to bring in 25 fish, but Malcolm Shepherd of Oakham topped that with 29 fish.
‘Wily’ Bob Draper of Northampton continues to battle the weedbeds on platforms 11 and 12 taking some quality rainbows on single dries and strong leaders – the tower end of the dam is consistent with fish coming to both damsel patterns and lures.
Best methods As above
