LAKE DISTRICT FLY FISHERS ASSIST ENGLAND YOUTH TEAM

The 2008 Youth Home International is being fished in Lough Conn in Ireland. New England Manager Martin Dixon and coach Phil Dixon needed to find a location and expertise in fishing for wild brown trout from boats, a skill not possessed by a team consisting of reservoir anglers.
Martin thus approached Patrick Arnold who guides on Ullswater. Patrick and Neil Birkinshaw put together a superb group of local experts including World Team member Andrew Dixon. Also Jared Smith of St. Patrick's boat landing at Glennriding put his boats at the disposal of the team.
England Youth fished Ullswater on the weekend of 17th & 18th May. Thanks to the efforts of their guides all caught fish, the largest a wonderful wild brown of 1lb 12ozs to Matt Holroyd. The lads learned an enormous amount about wild brown trout fishing which will be invaluable when they go to Ireland. Team member Terrry Mann from Manchester summed up the weekend perfectly; 'it was a great weekend and I picked up so many tips and methods about wild brownie loch-style fishing. Andrew Dixon was brilliant and I learnt so much from him'.

PS. THE ENGLAND YOUTH NATIONAL IS ON GRAFHAM ON SAT 5TH JULY 2008.
