Hardy & Greys Ltd host annual Wild Trout Trust Event
April 12th and 13th marked the annual Wild Trout Trust Get –together event, held at Hardy & Greys Ltd headquarters at Alnwick, Northumberland. Raising the awareness of the work of the WTT and how it can assist clubs plan and deliver Wild Trout conservation projects, leading fly casting experts such as Charles Jardine
and Stuart Crofts gave short presentations, demonstrations and offered fly fishing techniques. A series of presentations were given on Wild Trout conservation, entomology and fishing, and a guided tour of the Hardy Museum with Jim Hardy took place.
Opportunities to have a go at identifying river flies using the latest state-of-the-art ‘on screen’ equipment were given and during the day Managing Director of Hardy & Greys Ltd, Richard Sanderson announced the recipient of the 2008 Hardy & Greys Ltd/WTT Conservation Bursary. This year’s bursary (£1000) was awarded to Slamannan Angling Association to fund a programme of habitat restoration on the River Avon, Nr Falkirk. All juniors attending on the day were presented with a one year complimentary membership of the WTT and a Hardy & Greys Ltd goodie bag. An informal dinner was held at Alnwick Castle on Saturday evening. The after dinner speaker was Dr John Smith who gave a highly amusing talk on ‘The Medical Hazards of Fly Fishing. On Sunday, dinner guests visited beats on the River Derwent, kindly donated by the Derwent Angling Association.
Wild Trout Trust Director, Simon Johnson said; “The event was a great success and has resulted in several requests for Advisory Visits and project support. I would like to thank Hardy & Greys for their continued support of our vital conservation work”.
