EA FUNDING FOR WATER CLEAN UP!

At a recent seminar organised by the Trent Rivers Trust, Bob Marsden, who has been appointed by the Environment Agency to lead the England Catchment Sensitive Farming Delivery Initiative in the High Peak and Dales of Derbyshire, outlined the Agency’s work in response to the Water Framework.

Farmers in many areas of the country where river catchments are subject to pollution from farm slurry, field dressings and sheep dip can apply for significant financial assistance to overcome the causes of river pollution.  The government has allocated 24 million pounds for the work, to be spent by next year.  A further review will follow.

HOW CAN WE HELP?
As anglers we are in an excellent position to spot problems near to rivers and report them to the EA.  In the Trent Rivers catchment this can be done by contacting the Trust, who have offered to pass information on to the relevant staff at the EA.  Elsewhere in the country contact the EA directly unless you have other known contacts.

Bob Marsden’s illustrated talk was fascinating and he welcomes contacts from  farmers and angling clubs in the Dales and Peaks.   It is hoped that his work will have a significant impact on water quality and river habitat.  He deserves all the support we can give him.

DO YOU KNOW MORE?
If you know of other EA staff appointed to other regions why not contact us and we can post their details on the site for reference by other anglers.
