Huge Naver Salmon
The Syre Esate on the River Naver in Sutherland has produced the largest salmon from Northern Scottish waters this year so far – surprising for the river at this time of year
The 34 lb fish – a conservative “guesstimate” as there was no means of weighing it – was 44+ inches in length and had a girth of 28 inches. It was caught at the weekend by Dr M Edwards from Glasgow but it was no mean feat as he played the fish for more than two hours before landing it.. It was tagged and then released in accordance with Estate policy.

The fish, the largest caught by Dr Edwards in his 22 years of angling, was caught on a 1.5in Willie Gunn fly and was hooked at the very same spot as a 35-pounder, which was the estate’s record fish for about the past 30 years.
