2007 National Final, Grafham 22nd September
2007 National Final, Grafham 22nd September

After a week of strong winds, match day was a lot calmer. This caused a few panic decisions as what methods to use, and where to fish on the lake.

The majority of boats headed for G Buoy and E buoy, with a handful going to L buoy.

Craig Barr and Trevor Colclough headed for L buoy, as did Richard Cobbledick and his partner. The fishing here started slow, as this area was fished hard all week by practising boats, keeping out of the winds. Craig took three fish by 12 noon fishing crunchers on a midge tip line. Staying in this area all day, Craig took seven fish, with Trevor managing one.

G buoy produced some early fish, but the boat pressure put them down after an hour or so. Boats then moved to E and Q Buoy.

Ex England Youth team member Joel Beeney led the way by taking his eight fish limit by early afternoon to become National Champion, shortly followed by England International Tony Curtis.

By Mid –afternoon the fish were feeding high in the water. Andrew Scott and Gareth Headland kept away from the armada of boats and found a shoal of fish at B buoy. Andrew went on to complete his catch in one drift, shortly followed by his partner Gareth Headland. Both were pulling blobs on a Di-3.

RAF’S Si Gaines joined in on the feast by completing his limit late on at E buoy. Bristol based Andy Haskins also took a fish last cast which got him through to the team.

As the wind dropped and the cloud deepend the fish came up to feed. Blobs on a Di-3 took the majority of fish.

The best areas were G,E,Q,B and L buoy.

Best Lines – DI-3 Midge Tip and floating line.

Bet Flies – Orange Blobs, 2 tone blobs, diawl bachs, crunchers
