Mick Harlow's superb Derwent Salmon.
Derbyshire angler Mick Farlow had the shock of his angling life on 21st August!
Fishing a pair of maggots he hooked into a 5lbs salmon!
Read his own account:
" Location - Earl of Harrington water 50 yards upstream of Borrowash Road Bridge, Elvaston bank.
Method - Float fishing with a stick float 16 hook and double maggot, up to catching the salmon I'd caught about 15 or so roach and dace maximum about 6 ounces
Time and Date 21.8.07 16.00hrs.
Time to land - 20 minutes with a broken landing net and greatly increased heart rate!
The fish at one point leapt completely out of the water!
I only intended going fishing to re-charge the batteries, not expecting to catch the fish of a lifetime, what a beauty, the fish was returned alive to the water, witnessed by a neighbouring angler and photographs to prove.
The greatest pleasure was seeing the salmon swim off to live another day in a stretch of a great river. "
As far as we know this is the furthest upstream on The Derwent that a salmon has been caught in living memory.........unless you know different!
