England Youth Fly Fishing Association

Junior fly-fishing beginners days                                  May 2007

The England Youth Flyfishing Association is arranging a program of Junior + Adult Beginners Days across England starting in National Fishing Week.  The objectives are to encourage participation in fly-fishing among young anglers and awareness of the EYFA.

The format of the days will be for a junior and their accompanying adult to be coached together by an instructor at participating trout fisheries free of charge. This will normally be for a pre-booked 45 minute lesson to give a high quality taste of the basics and casting techniques to get them interested in trying the sport through further coaching and practice. EYFA Chairman Alistair Smith said ‘This is a great opportunity for men, women and their children to try a sport which they can enjoy together’

There will be opportunities for beginners to try fishing after the free session and details are available from each of the participating fisheries.  The fisheries taking part so far are all members of the Association of Stillwater Game Fishery Managers who will provide professional, qualified angling coaches on these days.

Wherever possible a current or past member of the England Youth Flyfishing Team will also be available to help and inspire the young anglers at the fishery. Anyone interested in fishing for the England Youth Flyfishing Team should enter the National Championships at Grafham Water on Sunday 8 July.  Details for entering are available this boat fishing event can be found on the EYFA`website www.eyfa.co.uk

EYFA thanks the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association and its members,

Masterline, Shakespeare, Snowbee, Lureflash and Veniard for sponsoring this project.
