COPYDEX KILLERS
COPYDEX KILLERS

Greg White, Irish International has sent his buzzer tying techingues for others to share on ukflyfisher.

The method and materials are as follows ......

 COPYDEX KILLERS

ELECTRIC COPYDEX UV BUZZER.

Materials required to make detached body.

Glass or Plastic surface (eg. mirror)

Copydex Glue

Barr brothers Ultra Violet Flash Attack

Dark seal's fur (black or Claret0

Waterproof Pantone Pen.

Materials required to tie Electric Copydex UV Buzzer.

Hook: size 8, 10 or Fulling Mill short shank 31510

Thread: Olive or Black Uni thread

Thorax: Electric blue Holographic tinsel

Cheecks: Electric sunburst edge goose biots

Head: Thin peacock herl

Breathers: Barr brothers Ultra violet flash attack

Step 1.

Spread a thin layer of copydex onto the glass/ plastic surface. Lay about 10 strands of UV Flash attack onto the copydex, but make sure the flash attack overlaps the edge of the copydex.Cut the seal's fur so it drops evenly onto the copydex, pat this gently down and allow to dry for about 10 minutes.

STEP 2.

Once dry, roll the copydex up, making sure that the UV Flash attack is rolled up inside the copydex and again that it overlaps the edges. Once rolled, colour the body, using the pen and allow to dry.

Step 3.

Take some more strands of UV Flash attack (about 10 ) and tie them onto the shank of the hook about 2mm from the eye. Trim off the excess.

Step 4.

Now secure the body by making three tight turns with the thread about halfway up the hook.

Step 5.

Secure the Goose Biots on either side of the hook as shown, then tie in the electric blue holographic tinsel.

STEP 6.

Wind the blue tinsel up towards the eye of the hook to create the thorax of the fly. Make sure to wind tight. Then carefully bring up the Goose biots on each side and tie them off  to create the cheeks. Trim off the excess.

STEP 7.

Tie in the Peacock Herl and turn twice to cover remaining thread. Tie off with a whip finish. Now that the fly is finished, the thorax should be given at least 3 coats of varnish. You now have the finished buzzer.

Fishing Tips.

This pupa pattern is a very realistic representation of a rising buzzer pupa as it remains straight when falling and rising through the water layers. It should be fished static with a team of buzzers / diawl bachs on a midge tip or floating line. It is also deadly when fished on the point of the cast when using the bung method.

Best times are obviously when buzzers are hatching. This can be at any time of the year. Usually for Loughs like Corrib and Mask the best months are March, April and May.

For places like Rutland & Grafham, April and May are the prime months. I have caught both Rainbow and Wild Brown Trout on this pattern from early March, right through to the end of the season.

GREG WHITE : Irish International angler Age 38.

Home Town : Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland.

All materials are available from major suppliers.
