Craig Barr Scoops Independance Day Shield
Craig Barr Scoops Independance Day Shield

UK Flyfisher contributor Craig Barr, has won Rutland Waters opening day "Independence Day" shield and a £50 cash prize. Craig was the captor of the days biggest fish, a cracking 4lb 6oz overwintered rainbow. Craig caught the fish at the dam wall, using a Di-3 and cormarant, fishing from a boat. "At first I thought I had foul hooked the fish as it fought so well. It wasnt until I got it close to the net after three long runs, that I realised I had hooked it properly. It was just a powerful fish."

There was reports of a 6lb fish taken off the dam wall. Anglian Water warden, Nigel Savage told Craig " If they do not weigh it in, it does not count, its as simple as that." Rutland regular Al owen claims to have had a 4lb 10oz rainbow. He too did not weigh it in.
