Ravensthorpe
Anglian Water’s Chris Allen and Graham Bayes are looking forward to welcoming anglers to Ravensthorpe Reservoir this weekend for the start of their new season (this begins on Thursday 1 March).
“Ravensthorpe gives anglers the best chance of a big fish and the highest catch rate at any of our reservoirs. Double figured fish are caught on a regular basis and the minimum weight of fish stocked is 2lb.” Says Nathan Clayton of Anglian Water, who manages Ravensthorpe and Pitsford fisheries.
There is a lot to attract anglers to this popular reservoir with the choice of bank or boat fishing or float tubing. The day permit with a 2 fish limit plus catch and release is very popular at £20. A 4 fish day permit is £25. The mid week permit for senior citizens is 1 fish plus catch & release at £15. Don’t forget that Ravensthorpe has a Mark I Wheeleyboat available at £15 per day.
Demand for boats often outstrips supply – pre-booking is essential.

Rutland Open House
Our open house at Rutland Fishing Lodge on Sunday 25 February was a great success. Visitors were impressed by the larger and completely re-designed tackle shop and superb ‘Castaways’ extension to the bar and restaurant. It was a great chance for anglers to chat with staff from all four of our trout fisheries and look through the displays and new range of tackle. Dave Doherty was on hand to give free casting lessons and local angler Roger McCarthy demonstrated his fly tying skills.
Rutland Water marks its 30th anniversary this year and the celebrations kicked off with a lucky season ticket holder from Bedford winning a Gold Season ticket for 2007. His name was first out of the hat in the draw of anglers’ 2006 catch returns.
There is plenty to look forward to in 2007 starting with opening day at each of our four fisheries

Anglian Water Fulling Mill International 2007
Now is the time to enter the largest 6 man team event in Europe. If you haven’t tried competition fly fishing yet, why not have a go? “The essence of the event is that of fly fishers coming together to enjoy themselves.” Says sponsor Barry Unwin of Fulling Mill. Around 1000 anglers are attracted to this competition with prizes reaching a value of £30,000. The top teams qualify to fish in the most prestigious event in the match calendar - the 2 day International Final at Rutland Water in October.
