Please find below a brief summary and results from the second heat of the Kielder Water WaterAid Pairs Competition.
14 pairs took part in the second heat and the favourable weather Kielder had been having dramatically changed for the competition day with anglers greeted with high wind conditions teamed with heavy down pours. This making hard conditions for the day ahead. However the Kielder fish were in a taking mood and providing you found a sheltered spot you would find the fish. A final rod average for the day of 2.8 fish per person made for a tight finish with seven final places up for grabs.
Tactics for the day involved intermediate lines coupled with orange blobs, cats whiskers and despite the windy conditions a good percentage of fish were taken on traditional wet flies. Top areas for the competition were the Belling and Tower Knowe.
The top seven teams qualify for the final on the 20th July 2008.
1st - David Carrick and John Armstrong (11 fish for 19lb 12oz)
2nd - Alistair Baker and Phil Wagget (11 fish for 19lb 9oz)
3rd - Brian Lillie and Phil Rippon (9 fish for 16lb 15oz)
